Properties we are seeking to preserve::
Allen Estate: Comprising 1/2 mile of Hwy 706 the Allen Estate was slated to be logged in the fall of 2005. On Feb. 29, 2008 the property was purchased by Nisqually Land Trust to be "protected in perpetuity". On behalf of the Ashford Community, we would like to thank Joe Kane and the Nisqually Land Trust for creating this win-win solution. We would also like to thank the Allen Estate heirs for their generosity and vision in preserving this land for future generations.

Pope Industries / Olympic Resource Management: This 185 acre parcel, with large stands of mature timber, is located on the historic Mt. Tahoma Canyon Road. On behalf of the Ashford Community, the Nisqually Land Trust applied to the Federal Endangered Species Fund, for a land acquisition grant. If succerssful, the land will be managed in perpetuity by the Nisqually Land Trust. This forest will help to create a corridor of contiguous wildlife habitat from the National Park, through the National Forest, and through the Upper Nisqually Valley. In September of 2006, the Nisqually Land Trust completed the successful purchase of this parcel. This forest will help to create a corridor of contiguous wildlife habitat from the National Park, through the National Forest, and through the Upper Nisqually Valley. Not only did the landowner realize its investment in the property, but the community gained a pristine forest to preserve for generations to come, for which we are extremely grateful to the Nisqually Land Trust. See the full news release under Letters and Opinions.

Hershey Forest / Crosetto: This 25 acre parcel, on the corner of Mt. Tahoma Canyon Road and Highway 706, is home to mature forest and valuable wildlife habitat. The landowners are currently in negotiation with the Land Trust, and we are optimistic that this land will be added to the wildlife corridor that extends from the National Park through the Upper Nisqually Valley.
